Curriculum Objective

This course unit of advanced theology applies principals off method and interpretation to a key aspect of Pentecostal church life. 

Outcomes

Students should be able to:

  • demonstrate a thorough knowledge of various approaches to the reading of Scripture
  • display a perceptive understanding of different methods and sources of theology
  • critically appreciate the ethos of the twentieth-century Pentecostal movement, and the implications of this ethos for biblical hermeneutics and theological method
  • apply principles of hermeneutics to the interpretation of the biblical text and other theological sources, for the purpose of addressing theological issues

  1. Historical developments in methods of biblical interpretation;  pre-modern, modern, post-modern
  2. Pentecostal history, ethos and approaches to the biblical text
  3. Bringing together Pentecostal orientation and contemporary hermeneutics
  4. Historical developments in theological method
  5. Relating Pentecostal ethos to the methods and sources of theology
  6. Applications to issues in the contemporary Pentecostal church
