In 2008, Phlair (a subsidary of Alphacrucis) along with a number of government and community ran its first motivation day for Pasifika youth from around the greater Penrose/Ellerslie/Onehunga area. This day included cultural performances and talks from Pasifika leaders and pastors such as Inga Tuigamala and Luka Robertson.

The aim of the event was to provide solutions around helping youth at risk and ensuring ongoing education of the local Pasifika community.

Early in 2009, PSCPL (Pasifika Schools Community Parents Project) came onboard and a second motivation day ran, themed “It’s your time to shine”. This included a powerful “draw your own tapa cloth based on your dreams & culture” workshop and a performance by Adeze. The day finished with a parents night with community church leaders.

Planning is now underway for the 2010 motivation day. Alphacrucis is calling for topics and ideas for the 2010 motivation day as well as wanting Pasifika performers.

Please forward any suggestions for themes, topics, workshops or Pasifika performers to Melinda Brown (Alphacrucis Operations Manager) on melinda.brown@alphacrucis.ac.nz or (09)580 1500.
